Will I still look like me?

That is the question almost everybody asks first, so it is the first one here. The rest follow in the order they usually come up.

Likeness and the artwork

Will I still look like me?

Yes. Likeness is the first thing we protect. Faces are softened in the Vello language but never distorted, and a person checks every artwork against your original photograph before it goes anywhere near a printer: likeness, hands, eyes, composition, background, colour and signature.

Is this a painting?

No, and we will never say it is. A Vello is a contemporary artwork created from your photograph in the Vello painterly language, checked by a person and produced as a premium physical print. What is authentic is the provenance: made exclusively from your moment, documented by Vello.

What is a Vello Original?

It is an official Vello creation, produced from your personal photograph and documented by Vello. Every artwork carries the handwritten Vello signature with its creation year, and a Vello ID tied to your order, your source photograph, the final master and every future copy.

Your photograph

Which photograph works best?

One where the people and the moment are clearly visible. Faces, hands and the way people stand together are what we preserve, so a sharp, well lit photograph gives the strongest result. If a photo is not suitable, we tell you before anything is created.

What happens to my photograph?

It is used to create your Vello. Our privacy and photo retention policy explains exactly how long we keep it and how to have it deleted.

What if my photograph is not big enough?

We tell you as you upload, and we never block you. A photograph that is comfortable at the size you chose goes through in silence. One that is tight gets a note and a one tap move to the next size down. One that is genuinely too small gets a clear warning you have to acknowledge, and we offer the digital artwork instead. A person looks at every photograph as well.

Which files can I upload?

JPG, PNG, HEIC and WebP, up to 30 MB. iPhone photographs are welcome as they come. You can also tell us how many people are in the photograph and leave a note for the studio.

How long do you keep my photograph?

Your source photograph is deleted 30 days after your Vello is delivered, or 30 days after a cancellation. We keep the print master for 3 years, which is the period a faulty print can be remade, and 5 years if you opt in to reordering. Order and invoice records are kept for 6 years because tax law requires it. Ask us to delete your photograph sooner and we will, within 30 days. We never run facial recognition on it, and we never use it in our own marketing without asking you separately.

Ordering, approval and changes

Can I change something?

You see your Vello before it is made. If something does not feel right, tell us and we perfect it before production.

How many revisions do I get?

As many as it takes. Nothing goes into production until you approve it. When you ask for a change you tell us what to look at, using a short form: likeness, hands, eyes, composition, background, colour, or something else, plus up to 500 characters in your own words.

What if I do not reply to the preview?

We wait, and we remind you twice. If we have not heard from you within 5 days of sending your preview we take that as approval and start production. You can approve at any point before that.

Can I cancel?

Until the studio starts creating your artwork, yes: tell us and we refund you in full. After that your Vello exists only because you ordered it, so it cannot be cancelled. What you get instead is the approval gate: unlimited revisions until it is right.

What arrives, and when

What exactly arrives?

Your artwork, protected by an outer art box, glassine and cream tissue, sealed with a matte Vello seal. Inside: one Story Card, your Certificate of Authenticity and the Memory Box that stays with you.

How long does it take?

Your preview is usually ready within 1 working day. Most Vellos leave the studio within 5 to 8 working days of your approval, and framed pieces and canvas usually take 8 to 14 working days. Delivery within the EU normally adds 2 to 7 working days, longer to islands and remote regions. These are guidance, not guarantees.

What if it arrives damaged?

Photograph it, including the box, and email us within 14 days. We reprint and reship at our cost. Transit is our risk, not yours.
